CLIENT: Seele
As one of the world’s leading glass roof installers, Seele approached TRAD to support their state-of-the-art roof at Watford’s new Intu shopping centre.
The client approached a number of other scaffolding companies, but with just 14 weeks to build, they declined due to the tight timeframe – tube and fitting would have taken too long and nobody else had an appropriate solution for their request.
TRAD decided an internal birdcage scaffold was the ideal solution to support the 2,300 square metre, 300 tonne glass roof; we specified our class-leading Metrix system scaffold, supplied in 2.5 metre bays to perfectly match the size of the glass panels in the roof.
The final installation used 59,000 metres cube of scaffolding, weighing 320 tonnes, built off RMD slim shores to distribute the roof loads evenly across the floor, with props off the scaffold used to support the considerable weight of the glass roof.
The simplicity and divisibility of the PLETTAC METRIX system means it is faster to erect, configure and dismantle – which is why it was perfect for this project – Seele couldn’t be happier.
TRAD were awarded Highly Commended for Scaffolding Project of the Year for INTU Shopping Centre at the NASC Annual Ball & Awards 2018.
